THE ANGLO CARIBBEAN DOMINO LEAGUE (ACDL)

Dear Visitor,

Welcome to Anglo Caribbean Domino League website. Whether you are a Domino enthusiast or just curious about the game, I hope this website will give you a taste of this great sport.

Anglo Caribbean Domino League was conceived in a tiny office in a night club called Shady Grove based in Tottenham, London and was the brain child of Eddie Daley founder and owner of the Night Club. Eddie Daley himself had formed Ten Commandments now known as Tottenham All Stars. After taking part in several other Leagues that was around in the early years, he recognized the plight of the Caribbean Domino fraternity struggling to own commercial premises to enjoy the comfort of socializing and playing dominoes, he came up with the unique and pioneering idea that all clubs taking part in the League should be paid out a cash prize. To this day ACDL carries out this function. Read more on our history page.

I myself was one of the founding members of the Anglo Caribbean Domino League in 1992 after joining Ten Commandments in 1991. I have served as Vice-Chair, Secretary and Treasurer and last year was voted in as Chairperson last season.

Dominoes are one of the best atmospheres you could find yourself in, if you are looking for a taste of how the Caribbean people enjoyed their lifestyles in their original Caribbean home. The vibrancy of how the domino games are played with passion, the beautiful Caribbean food that is served, to the oldies to the modern of music that keeps you dancing until you head home, is all what makes Dominoes, still being one of the best past times to ever be enjoyed.

Weddings, Christenings and Funerals was the most if not only occasions that the Wind rush generation used to come together in the early days of cold winter and entering a foreign strange land that actually showed the reality that no “England streets are not actually paved with Gold!!” but hard times as prejudice was also a great obstacle to overcome. Domino though was the joy in every situation that kept up the spirits of many, whether in a home, or at a wedding, christening or funeral, there would be a little swarm around a table somewhere knocking some “bone” as it is sometimes called.

Now we are in an era of sophistication where Dominoes are being sponsored and supported by corporate companies who wants to help us keep this phenomenal game alive.  We have been fortunate enough to be partners (and that’s how it feels, a lot closer than sponsors) with two major sponsors i.e. Western Union and Grace Foods who without them we couldn’t keep the momentum going and keeping the dream alive of allowing each team to gain a cash prize at the end of each season.

The ACDL agenda is to now look to the future in engaging our next generation to ensure that this sport doesn’t fade out. Children in schools, academies and colleges need to be given an opportunity to take this part of their history to another level.  This sport challenges and stimulates the mental mathematical mind that we have so lost in this new world of computer and calculator.

ACDL has plans to ensure to that this sport doesn’t fade away with the current generation who plays. Look out for a new 2012 with great plans.

Enjoy the website; we are continuing to evolve it continually so keep visiting! ………Anita
